Learn how marketing, economics and law work together to shape the world’s markets and consumer behaviour.

This Spark credential focuses on the dynamics of the external market environment and how it affects businesses and consumption behaviours. It explores the market forces in everyday business environments that impact society; how businesses create value for individuals and broader society; and the value of responsible and sustainable business practices.

It is one of three Spark credentials that can be completed together and used as credit towards a Curtin bachelor degree in either commerce or business administration.

Earn credit towards your Curtin bachelor degree

When you complete this Spark credential together with Spark credentials in Legal Frameworks; and Economics in a Changing and Unequal World, you’ll earn 25 credit points towards the Markets and Legal Frameworks unit, normally studied in the first year of your degree.

This Spark credential is designed specifically for students who are interested in a career in responsible and sustainable business practices and market behaviours.

 

What you will learn

 

On completion of your Spark credential, you will be able to:

  • describe the relationship between a business and its stakeholders, and how key business disciplines are connected
  • explain market types and business structures, and how they are regulated
  • explain how business and marketing strategies create value through the application of economic principles.

 

Assessment(s)

To successfully complete this credential, you are required to pass a final assessment.

Associate Professor/Faculty of Business and Law

Associate Professor Min Teah is Dean of Research in the Faculty of Business and Law at Curtin. Dr Teah has a background in creative advertising and graphic design, and she specialises in consumer behaviour and brand semiotics, design, strategy and storytelling. Her research focuses on the retail, cosmetic, food and beverage sectors.

Faculty of Business and Law

Valencia has a background in marketing, encompassing both academia and industry. She has undertaken various marketing activities and campaigns throughout her career, alongside her role as a tutor at Curtin University. Her research area is on brand innovations and consumer behaviour, with a particular focus in the fashion industry.
