Full course description
Learn to conduct a needs assessment or evaluate your organisation's programs or policies.
Do you know whether your organisation is making an impact, whether your services are needed or how they could be improved?
In this course you will learn the basics of how to design and conduct social research for needs assessments and evaluate the success of your organisation's initiatives, programs and policies. Social research can inform whether a program is working or not, how clients are responding, and ways to improve it.
During the course, you will develop key research skills including developing research questions and hypotheses, conducting interviews, focus groups and observations, and report writing.
You'll be able to apply your learning to any setting where you need to evaluate success or failure, or where community consultation is required. For example, a mining company may wish to determine worker preference for FIFO or local residential living, an NGO may need to demonstrate the value of a program for assisting those at risk of homelessness, or a local council may seek to understand community concerns about a proposed road development. Only social research can answer these questions. The applications are endless.
This credential is particularly suitable for:
- any professional wanting to undertake social research for their organisation.
By completing this credential you will learn to:
- conduct basic social research.
- develop skills in interviewing, observation, data collection, critical analysis, presentation and report writing.
- design a real-world research project and communicate your findings through a presentation.
