How can we improve our knowledge and skills to reduce the risk of cyber attacks in our organisations?
Did you know there is a hacking attack on IT systems on average every 39 seconds? Or that since the emergence of COVID-19, the US FBI has reported a 300 per cent increase in cybercrime incidents?
With increased global connectivity and many more businesses using cloud technologies, cyber security has become paramount. Cyber threats are now more sophisticated and can target organisations of any size.
If you want to arm yourself with the knowledge and skills to protect your organisation from potential attacks, this credential will provide the first steps. You will get an introduction to different aspects of cyber security and discover ways to keep information and intellectual property safe.

Key Topics
Your learning journey includes access to four online modules.
Module 1 – Introduction to Cybersecurity
We introduce you to the key themes relating to protecting the computers, communications networks, programs and data that make our digital lives possible – collectively referred to as cybersecurity.
Module 2 – Cybersecurity and CIA
What are the main objectives in any effort to improve a computer system’s security? We need to have a clear understanding of the definition of security before we can learn the techniques to achieve security.
Module 3 – Risk and Mitigation
In this module we will learn about the definition of risk and how it should be assessed and mitigated.
Module 4 – Cybersecurity Investment
Using cost-benefit-analysis we explore how an organisation should decide which controls they must implement, which controls can be put on hold and which controls are not worth implementing.
Assessment(s)
To successfully complete this credential, you are required to pass a final assessment. In this final assessment, you will choose a real-life organisation with IT infrastructure critical to their business and evaluate threats and vulnerabilities.
Lecturer
Nazanin Mohammadi is a computer network and IT specialist in educational environments. She has been developing and delivering materials for computer systems and networking laboratories in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Curtin for the past 10 years. In 2015, Nazanin received the Vice-Chancellor’s Excellence Award in Innovation for design and implementation of the remote collaborative engineering laboratory environment. She is also amongst a few certified Cisco Networking Academy Instructor trainers in Australia. Nazanin is actively engaged in developing new pedagogies in teaching science and engineering courses as part of her PhD research.

This credential provides foundation knowledge in a discipline and doesn't require previous knowledge.
You will also earn 5 credit points which are in line with Australian Qualification Framework Level 8 criteria, ensuring comprehensive theoretical and/or technical knowledge of the credential. 100 credit points are required to earn a Graduate Certificate at Curtin.
