Explore what it takes to succeed in the future of work in changing technological, geopolitical and economic landscapes
This Spark credential explores the technological megatrends – including AI, cyber systems, digitisation and automation – as well as economic and political shifts and sustainable development considerations that will impact the future of work.
This credential also explores into the growth mindset capacities, such as technological literacy and emotional intelligence, required for success in careers of the future.
It is one of three Spark credentials that can be completed together and used as credit towards a Curtin bachelor degree in innovation.
Earn credit towards your Curtin bachelor degree
When you complete this Spark credential together with Spark credentials in Innovation Fundamentals; and Innovation Strategies, you’ll earn 25 credit points towards the Introduction to Innovation Principles unit, normally studied in the first year of your degree.
This Spark credential is designed specifically for high school students who want to gain the skillsets for creating innovation and/or a future career in entrepreneurship.
By completing your Spark credential you will learn to:
- Explain key ideas about growth mindset, automation's effects on jobs, and show insights about how they relate to trends for the future of work.
- Communicate interesting findings on the benefits of a growth mindset, jobs at risk from automation, and emerging trends of job market, highlighting their value and real-world impact.
- Show knowledge of topics covered by creating an engaging multimedia presentation that explains ideas skilfully and critically, and is supported by evidence.
Assessment
To successfully complete this credential, you are required to pass a final assessment.

Lecturer/School of Management and Marketing
Dr Mike Burbridge is a lecturer in Innovation and Course Co-ordinator for Curtin University's Bachelor of Innovation. He is interested in sustainable innovation and the interplay of the sustainable development goals and planetary boundaries. His PhD examined the effectiveness of partnerships between government, business and academia to use innovation to further the transition to a low carbon economy. He has spent most of his career working on sustainable development both in government (UK and Australia) as well as in the private sector. Prior to emigrating to Australia, he was Head of Office for the UK Minister for Biodiversity, and also led the UK government’s environmental policy input to ensure the London Olympics were the “greenest games in history”.
