Enhancing your visual artistry skills can help you prepare your students for creative portfolio entry pathways to university.
In this credential, you’ll develop your teaching skills through studio practice in a specialist area of art, fostering your experimentation and critical thinking abilities.
You’ll write a proposal, develop a body of visual creative work and present it in a digital portfolio, gaining skills to further your career as a specialist high school art teacher, and the knowledge to guide your students through creative portfolio entry pathways to university.
This credential is taught through a blend of practical and online learning, and co-developed with industry to ensure your learning reflects current practice trends, and utilises new technology and industry-standard equipment.

By completing this credential you will learn to:
- apply professional principles to develop your technical, conceptual, and experimental skills in art making, including technical illustrations, model building, and patterns and templates
- plan and create an original creative body of work
- develop your documentation and digital literacy skills and use them to create a digital presentation
- effectively communicate your creative projects and apply an understanding of art theory to creative practice
- learn innovative education strategies to engage students in arts learning.
Assessment(s)
To successfully complete this credential, you are required to pass a final assessment. To demonstrate what you have learned, you will be required to submit a written proposal, artist statement and digital portfolio.

Mark Parfitt is a contemporary artist and Major Lead for the Bachelor of Creative Arts Fine Art major at Curtin University.
He is currently a PhD candidate in Creative Practice at RMIT University and holds a Bachelor of Arts (Social Science), a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) and a Master of Art (Visual Art).
Mark’s practice draws from everyday desires, problems and daily anomalies to investigate the being and doing within ordinary life.
Coming from the position of ‘art as action’, Mark produces autobiographical work in the form of journals, performance and sculpture. Since 2004, he has exhibited in group and solo exhibitions, featured in institutional and private collections and has attracted the funding of numerous grants, residencies and prizes.
Mark is a member of the National Association for Visual Artists (NAVA) and Artsource (Artists' Foundation of Western Australia) and is Chair of the City of South Perth Public Art Advisory Group.

This credential provides foundation knowledge in a discipline and doesn't require previous knowledge.
You will also earn 5 credit points which are in line with Australian Qualification Framework Level 8 criteria, ensuring comprehensive theoretical and/or technical knowledge of the credential. 100 credit points are required to earn a Graduate Certificate at Curtin.
