This comprehensive professional development program is designed to complement existing Indigenous-specific training and development initiatives within universities. It provides senior leaders with additional perspectives and strategies to enhance their capabilities in advancing Indigenous education and creating sustainable institutional change. The program comprises six interconnected modules that build upon institutional knowledge while developing broader strategic understanding, practical skills, and cultural competence.
With an emphasis on reflection, strategic action, and collaboration, this program strengthens the capability of senior leaders to lead with confidence and cultural integrity. Participants will gain tools, frameworks, and perspectives that support both immediate action and long-term impact.

This program aims to equip senior leaders with the knowledge, skills, and strategies needed to:
- lead institutional transformation in Indigenous education.
- develop and maintain authentic community partnerships.
- create culturally safe and inclusive learning environments.
- build organisational capacity for sustainable change.
- implement effective monitoring and evaluation frameworks.
- drive continuous improvement in Indigenous education outcomes.

Pro Vice-Chancellor (Indigenous), University of Newcastle
Professor Peter Anderson is from the Walpiri and Murinpatha peoples of the Northern Territory. He previously served as Director of Indigenous Research at Griffith University and has recently commenced his appointment as Pro Vice-Chancellor (Indigenous) at the University of Newcastle.
With deep expertise in Australian Indigenous education, educational systems, curriculum design, and pedagogical interventions, Professor Anderson’s work examines the complex relationships between Indigenous peoples both within Australia and globally.
His leadership and contributions to the field have been widely recognised. He is a member of the ARC College of Experts, a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and a Fellow of the Queensland Academy of Arts and Sciences.
